What matters to me today is the [NOT] 40th Annual [NOT] UCLA Land Use Law and Planning Conference.

One of the most personally impactful milestones of my legal career was three icon mentors in my legal practice inviting me to co-Chair what I considered the preeminent conference in my field of expertise.  I had attended the UCLA Land Use Law and Planning Conference at the iconic Biltmore in Downtown LA every year without fail.  After an abrupt cancellation in 2025 and an extraordinary effort by dedicated professionals, I am grateful to announce I will be back at the Biltmore on Friday, January 23, 2026.  I hope you will join me.

Absent the recent changes and interruptions, we would be celebrating the 40th annual occurrence of the Conference.  Unfortunately, UCLA apparently reconsidered and restructured its approach to conferences generally.  My esteemed co-Chairs and I felt proceeding with the conference under newly specified parameters would preclude the Conference living up to its legacy.  So, we objected.  Ultimately, we felt no option but to seek an alternative.

Enter Arizona State University with a demonstrated focus on and investment in Southern California.  Embracing the Conference’s legacy California focus and emphasis on premiere content and presenters, they jumped in to launch the Conference anew.

I could not be more proud to join my co-Chairs on the dais to again deliver California’s premiere conference and professional community engagement on land use law and planning expertise.

That’s what matters to me today in 250 words or less.  What matters to you?  I’d really like to know.
